It would be a helpful if Sir Roger would list a few of the countries which have done so well with the lower spending v gdp and some of those that have done poorly.

That said, it's shocking that the spending to gdp ratio has crawled up so high; it's not basket case territory yet, but it's getting there.

A good speech but it is painful to see political parties described in the plural - "National have", "Labour have" etc. These words are singular and must be: the presumption - however true the contrary - is of unity. I suspect that the usage here jars on the eye and probably the ear even of uneducated and logically slovenly people. "Labour is wacky." "National is slothful." That sounds better, doesn't it?

Regards

As a member of act since its inception, I am in full agreement with Rogers portrayal of the parties aims and philosophies, However, like many others I am becoming increasing disillusioned with Acts failure to attract voters.I like the idea that Act should stand by its policies and that these policies must be put to the public and the public must be convinced that this is the correct way to go. How to do this is another problem. Firstly the media must be convinced that Act is not a 'Hard Right' party, Not easy to do, secondly, the pubic image of the party must change, again not easy to achieve. Act has to try and change these mindsets or fail.

Kevin, you haven't addressed the issue in a reasonable way.

Lower rates of pay are not exploitation - youth are not as experienced as those who have been in the workforce longer.

The real exploitation is when a youth is legislated out of potential employment to languish on less than $200 a week when they could easily work for twice that amount. The minimum wage legislation is an attack on the independence of low skilled people who might make a go of their lives through working towards a skill set in the workplace.

Unemployment is not the legacy of Roger Douglas, it is the legacy of the Unions.

Lower rates of pay don't equate to employment opportunity for young people. Lower rates of pay equate to exploitation as they did when youth rates applied in the past. The world has moved on since Sir Rogers day and his solutions are equally dated. High rates of unemloyment and public indebtedness is Sir Rogers legacy, the question is "Do you want moreofthe same?'
